Get Fresh at Tahoe Farmers’ Markets
June 03, 2013
There is something special about a farmers market. The sights, smells and sounds overwhelm your senses as you casually visit each booth, converse with growers, vendors and artisans to purchase organic and fresh produce, vegetables and flowers. Offering food often hard to find in local markets, the local farmers’ markets are a welcomed relief from today’s hectic world. Plus, it’s fun to chat with the growers and makers themselves!
Big kids and little ones will enjoy live music, crafts, dancing and especially free samples. Supporting local businesses and vendors while enjoying the regions freshest produce, vegetables and products makes for a winning combination.
A local favorite is the Truckee Farmers’ Market, which opens its 2013 season on Tuesday, June 4th and offers markets on Tuesday mornings and Thursday evenings:
Truckee Tuesday Market - 8:00am - 1:00pm from June 4th to October 8, 2013 at the Truckee Regional Park located at 10050 Brockway Road off Hwy 27 in Truckee, California.
Truckee Thursdays - 5:00pm - 8:00pm from June 13th through August 22nd, 2013 in Downtown Truckee on Donner Pass Road near the train station.
Jessica, Lodging Guest Services Manager at Constellation Residences at Northstar says: The Truckee Farmers Market is also a great time – try the Indian Food!
It’s nice to have the evening option as the Farmers’ Market becomes part of Truckee Thursdays. Haven’t attended a Truckee Thursday? Here is a great review and description of what you’ve been missing from yelp:
My first visit was three summers ago and I'm astounded by how this downtown festival has grown. They shut down the main drag through the historic district and it is filled with booths of every kind. Nice mix of produce stalls, gifts, kids' activities, food carts and a party atmosphere. There is a beer garden by the train station and live music. And this summer I saw at least four massage booths, including one featuring a masseuse walking on your back.
The longest food lines are for the Full Belly Deli. This is how I first discovered the business several years ago and I'm thrilled to see them still going strong.
Absolutely the place to be in Truckee on a Thursday night! – Jen K.
We all know that when in Tahoe, you can find yourself spending a lot of summer days at the Lake. You are in luck! The Foothill Farmers’ Market, organizers of the Truckee Farmers’ Market and many more , hold a Farmers’ Markets in neighboring Kings Beach (Tuesdays) and Tahoe City (Thursdays) during the summer months. All three markets boast a great combination of nearby area farmers and local Tahoe vendors.
