Fall is approaching quickly, and in Tahoe, that means a celebration of all things food and wine. As a part of the larger Tahoe Food & Wine week, Northstar plays host to the 29th Annual Autumn Food & Wine Festival, three days of merriment highlighting local chefs and artisan purveyors. This exceptional event, taking place September 5-7, is widely recognized as the premier food, wine, brew and spirits festival in Northern California and the Sierra Nevada. Experience farm to table dinners, signature and winemaker/brewery dinners, special tasting events, and culinary and mixology events. With Constellation at Northstar as your home base, you will be perfectly situated for this weekend of indulgence.
Event highlights include……
Farm to Tahoe Dinner
On Friday, September 5th, Northstar’s Chef Steve Anderson will feature fresh, sustainable and locally-sourced produce, skillfully prepared for a delicious dining experience. This multi-course plated dinner will take place at the beautiful Zephyr Lodge. Limited seating is available. Advance ticket purchase required.
Gourmet Marketplace Vendor Fair
Throughout the weekend, guests can sample some of the finest local and regional gourmet goodies at the marketplace in Northstar Village. This free showcase features kitchen gadgets, fine linens and clothing, exquisite handmade jewelry, fine art, photography, spa products and much more.
Hands-On Mozzarella Cheese Making
Chef Lara Ritchie of the Nothing To It Culinary Center will teach 25 guests the age old technique of making fresh mozzarella cheese. Pull and stretch your fresh mozzarella, then taste your masterpiece once you’re done. Advanced ticket purchase is recommended. Day-of tickets will be on a space availability basis.
Beer and Artisan Cheese Pairing
Enjoy craft beers paired with artisan cheeses presented by Nyna Weatherson of Restaurant Trokay. A recognized cheese expert and former lead cheesemonger at the renowned Murray’s Cheese in New York City, Weatherson will pair unique brews with complementing cheeses and guide participants through the technique of creating a cheeseboard selection which properly progresses through the palate.
Marinating and Brining Demonstration
Chef Jason Gronlund of Smokeybones Bar and Fire Grill returns for one of the festival’s most highly-anticipated events, year after year. An accomplished grill master who respects the power of the open flame, Chef Jason will teach you the difference between brining and marinating and his contagiously high energy will have you rocking in your seat.
Blazing Pans Mountain Chef Cook Off ©
Cheer on your favorite chef in the 2014 Blazing Pans Mountain Chef Cook Off. 2013 Champion Chef Mark Estee of Campo Restaurant will face off with the talented and wildly popular Chef Wyatt Dufresne of PlumpJack Cafe. This Iron Chef style competition will put these two fearless competitors head-to-head as they prepare a 4-course meal featuring a secret ingredient that is revealed at the very last second The winner of Blazing Pans receives an award and bragging rights. Costumes, noisemakers, and air horns are encouraged.
Sunday Culinary Competition and Grand Tasting
The most anticipated food, wine, spirits and brew event of the year! An al fresco afternoon tasting features more than 25 top chefs in the region paired with 25 premium wines, sprits and brews in a formally judged food and wine pairing competition. Each chef’s dish is paired with a varietal and vintage from the winery or brewery of their choice. It’s a culinary throw-down and the chefs compete for the Best Marriage of Food and Wine/Beverage and Best Food categories and the coveted People’s Choice Awards.
